Despite the fact that English blood flows through Argentina’s golfing veins, the first golf
bag arrived in Buenos Aires in 1879. Carried by Henry Smith, it came directly from
Scotland, the undisputed cradle of the sport. Golf awoke native curiosity and, by the
19th century, was showing unequivocal signs of becoming an exclusive passion. The
development of golf in Argentina has been helped by the results obtained by its major
golf professionals and by an enormous growth in tourism. Argentina now ranks as one of
the destinations offering the widest range of options in terms of landscape variety.
Argentina’s rich geography, diverse climates, spectacular natural environments, imposing
settings, and golf courses to suit all skill levels, have led the Secretariat for Tourism to
create a Golf Division with the goal of promoting the tourist potential of Argentina and
